Most GEEKTONE displays come in two flavors — USB 5V and 5–12V DC. Which one you pick mainly depends on how bright you want it and where you feed it from.

USB (5V): perfect for desktop use. Plug straight into a phone charger, USB hub or power bank. Great brightness for a desk or shelf.

5–12V DC: gives you more headroom and brighter output for larger panels. A clean, 12V wall adapter or another display's supply works well.

Tip: always use a decent-quality supply — a noisy or weak charger can make the levels look unstable or dim. For a ready-made USB-powered option, see the 64×32 LED music spectrum which runs directly from USB.

Spectrum analyzers and VU meters animate to your music. There are two main ways they hear it:

Built-in microphone: the quickest setup — just place it near a speaker. Most models add a pickup gain / sensitivity knob so you can tune the response. Ideal for casual listening.

AUX / line-in: the cleanest and most accurate. Connect an audio cable from your phone, computer or amplifier. Response is snappier and independent of room noise — best for serious setups.

Tip: start with the mic for a zero-wiring demo, then move to line-in for accuracy. Our VU meter displays support both modes, with an auto-gain knob for each.
